How is the piston ring replaced?

Piston rings are round metaldetails of an open form. They are installed in the grooves of the outer surfaces of the piston. As practice shows, the service life of these parts is 100-120 thousand kilometers (VAZ piston rings serve almost as much). However, there are also such elements that can withstand 300,000 operation. The range in which the piston rings are replaced is really different, therefore, in order to determine the failure in time, it is necessary to pay attention to the following factors:

• loss of engine power;
• the appearance of blue smoke from the exhaust pipe;
• reduction of compression;
• increased oil burn.

If you notice at least one of these signs,should think about replacing the piston rings. With the purchase of a new part, it's very easy to manage, but with its installation quite the opposite. So that you do not get confused in the sequence of the stages, below we will describe in detail how the piston rings are replaced.

First, drain the antifreeze and disconnect the cablegas from the receiver and throttle assembly. Next, dismantle the timing belt. Then slightly loosen the clamps of the fastening and remove the hose of the throttle assembly. Now find the element by which the crankcase gas is supplied. This should be a small hose located on the valve cover. We just remove and disconnect the ground wire. It is located on the cylinder head. Next, we disassemble the fuel main. To do this, take the carabiner wrench for 17 millimeters and unscrew all the fixing bolts. The latter is best marked, so that later there are no problems with the installation.

Then we shift the thermostat, having unscrewed its nuts from the fastenings. If necessary, remove the hoses from it. Next, disconnect the idle speed regulator and the sensor throttle valve. Now remove the tension roller and remove the beltTiming. Then unscrew the camshaft pulley assembly. After that, take the unscrewed element out. When dismantling, make sure that the key is not lost. Now we need to find the fastening elements connecting the pipes to the collector on the bottom. They too should be removed. Next, turn off the crankshaft position sensor and the oil level. Now you need to unscrew the bolts that secure the cylinder head. After that, remove the cylinder head and take out the stopper on the pallet. Then drain the oil and disconnect the flywheel protection. The pallet is also removed. Further we take out a cover of a rod. But this is not the end of the replacement of the piston rings. After the above steps, we remove the connecting rod-piston group and clean it from the deposit.

Now there is only the installation of piston rings. First look at the marking of the pistons and check it with the details of the purchased part. After that, we put the rings in place and drive them. We mount the parts to the same places where the old ones were installed. Then we put the covers on the connecting rods and tighten them. Now it remains to collect everything in the reverse order.

Everything, at this stage, replacement of the piston rings has been successfully completed. You can start the engine again.
