In the approaching vacation season, many plan totraveling by private car. This time is not only for recreation at sea resorts, but also visits to friends and relatives living in, among others, former union republics, such as Belarus and Ukraine. Up to the border with the latter is the M3, popularly known as Kievka. It begins at the end of Leninsky Prospekt.

Leaving it from Moscow, the car enthusiast begins to hope that from the list of Russian misfortunes the roads will soon be crossed out. However, this hope has not come true yet. But! About everything in order.

Route M3
Route M3 - the history of appearance and geography

The design of the modern track was started in1938, her working route was laid from Moscow to Sevsk. Military operations in the forties made significant adjustments to the construction period, which accelerated in 1959. For four years, about 400 kilometers of the route were built.

Asphalt-concrete coating appeared on M3 duringreconstruction, conducted in the late sixties - mid-seventies. At the same time, the width of the carriageway was increased. Since then, global restructuring has been carried out only in the territory of the nearest suburbs, in some areas local repairs have been carried out and their condition is satisfactory, the rest is practically the previous M3 route.

The map of the area along which the road is laid, speaks of a fairly quiet landscape of the East European Plain. However, despite this, the track has several dangerous areas with sharp turns (50, 220 and 426 km) and dangerous climbs and descents (245 km).

The road passes through the territory of four regions: Moscow, Kaluga, Kursk and Bryansk.

Route M3 - technical condition

The state of the road changes quite significantlydifferent parts of it, but the asphalt covering is present throughout its extent. So, on the territory of the Moscow region, there are no serious claims to the quality of the canvas, marking and readability of the indexes. The emergency section of the road starts from a turn to Kaluga and stretches to the border of the Bryansk region: the quality of the asphalt is poor, there are potholes, ruts. Only one lane in each direction aggravates an already difficult situation in the area. The second difficult stretch of the road begins beyond Bryansk and ends at the turn to Sevsk.

Route M3 - development prospects

Today we can definitely say that thisthe road requires not just the repair of asphalt, but global reconstruction, because the infrastructure of some of its sites has not changed since the sixties. Including, it is necessary to increase the transportability and speed regime, since the route is the main one connecting Moscow and Kiev. Some segments require an urgent increase in the level of security: the construction of dividing fences, the replacement of signs, the extension of roadsides and so on.

Fortunately, a strategic decision was made. The M3 route is subject to global reconstruction with an increase in the number of lanes on the narrowest sections to four in each direction. The works will be divided into stages, the implementation of which will take several years. According to preliminary data, the project implementation period is 2020. Alas, the road will become toll, and alternative roundabouts are only being discussed.
