Therefore, when, according to tradition, on her sixteenth birthday Merida (princess) should choose her fiancé, Elinor does not accept any refusals to her daughter and insists on that she meets candidates for husbands.

None of the sons of noble families of the kingdomdid not strike Merida's heart. The girl is just as stubborn as her red curls, which her mother constantly tries to put in her hair and hide under the mantilla. Therefore, in the head of the rebellious princess, a plan is maturing, how to avoid marriage. Merida announces an archery tournament in which the winner will get her hand and heart. The princess also takes part in the competition and wins, defending her hand, as well as the right to refuse marriage.

History of character creation

Scriptwriter and director of the cartoon Brenda Chapmanwhen writing the script, she drew her inspiration from the tales of the authors of the brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen, who were loved from childhood. A distinctive feature of the plot written by her story is the relationship of the mother and daughter, around which the fairy tale events occur. Creating the character of the queen, Brenda took as a basis the manner of her own behavior, and Merida (princess) began to possess the character traits of daughter Chapman.

When in 2008 the studio Pixar decided to changeformat and remove the animated fairy tale, the heroine of which will be a young princess, the artists created a hundred and a half thousand storyboard drawings, most of which were later used in the film.
